Frequently Asked Questions

What is Civiqs?

Civiqs is a polling and data analytics firm that conducts public opinion research online. Since 2013, Civiqs has fielded over two million scientific research surveys, and collected more than thirty million responses to survey questions.

Are Civiqs results unbiased?

Civiqs does not adjust, manipulate, disguise, or in any way tamper with its results to promote any particular viewpoint—political or otherwise. The results are modeled to be representative of the specified population for each question; for example, registered voters within the United States. Civiqs is committed to producing research that is accurate, clear, trustworthy, and informative.

Where do the results come from?

Every day, Civiqs surveys thousands of Americans about their opinions on politics, news, and current affairs. The respondents are sampled scientifically from Civiqs’ online survey panel. Civiqs aggregates each day’s results to produce the charts on the Civiqs results dashboard.

What do the results show?

The Civiqs results dashboard tells you what the American public currently thinks about a wide range of issues, candidates, and groups. Select a question to see how opinions have evolved over time. Below each trendline chart, a table shows attitudes within key demographic groups.

Can I see more results within demographic groups?

Yes. From within the Civiqs results dashboard, click on any demographic group in the “Refine By” navigation bar to see trendlines for the selected group. You can also select combinations of groups; for example, Independent women with a college degree. The tables below each chart update with every selection.

How else can I explore the results?

To toggle between seeing trendlines and “Net” opinion, use the buttons below each chart. The uncertainty range around the trendlines and any labeled events can also be turned on or off. Hover over the chart to see results on each day. The date range on a chart can be adjusted by clicking the calendar icon and selecting a new interval.

Are the results scientifically valid?

Yes! The survey software behind Civiqs implements a research methodology that is the application of years of extensive research. The representative sampling, interviewing, and modeling methodology incorporates the best of pre-online survey science, bringing it up to modern standards with a fully automated and repeatable survey software system.

How do you poll online?

Civiqs operates a nationally representative online survey panel for scientific, real-time public opinion research. We select a representative group of panelists to respond to surveys each day using a voter file list-based sampling methodology. Selected panelists are notified by email, and complete the surveys in a web browser or smartphone at civiqs.com.

How can I join the panel?

To take your first poll and become a member of the Civiqs research panel, join now! We will never try to sell you anything and we will never (ever!) share your email address for marketing purposes. Civiqs polls are open to all residents of the United States of America, subject to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

Can I sign up to receive text messages from Civiqs?

If you would like to sign up for future communications from Civiqs via text message, please follow this link to fill out our interest form.

What do the padlocks on some of the questions mean?

Civiqs releases some of the results of its polls each day to the public. Other results only show the topline, or aggregate trendlines. Additional results on those, and other questions that Civiqs asks, are shown to Civiqs subscribers.

How accurate is Civiqs?

Civiqs accurately predicted the 2018 Ohio and Texas U.S. senate elections. Responses to individual questions have been validated by major registered voter file providers. Civiqs employs a variety of techniques to screen responses for accuracy and ensure that each survey is answered by the correct, randomly selected panelist. By automating the complex process of conducting opinion surveys, Civiqs eliminates many of the errors and biases that arise in other polls.

I saw a result that looks funny or unexpected. How can I tell Civiqs?

Civiqs does a lot of polling. The responses are all collected and processed automatically. Sometimes, there’s a result that doesn’t seem quite right. If you spot something unexpected, or would just like to give feedback to Civiqs, please send an email to help@civiqs.com. Thanks!

Who runs Civiqs?

Civiqs is a team of pollsters, data scientists, and software engineers, building the future of online scientific survey research. The director and chief scientist is Drew Linzer, Ph.D., a survey statistician and expert in public opinion. Civiqs is based in Oakland, CA.
